Position Summary Information

Job Description

Reports to the Director of Environmental Health & Safety, the Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for the general administration of the Sustainability Program, including managing the budget and reporting on projects.

In implementing and administering the program, the Coordinator will develop programs; advocate for sustainability practices and facilitate interaction and collaboration among various groups on campus; identify, promote and monitor sustainability initiatives; prepare and disseminate information in print and electronic media on and off campus.

Initiate new programs to establish and strengthen sustainable practices across the campus and work to foster collaboration among the areas of teaching, research, campus operations, student life, and community service. Oversee the collection, synthesis, and dissemination of data on energy use and other performance indicators for the campus.

Provide support to Housing and Residence Life initiatives to increase the sustainability of student residences and the environmental literacy of the student body. Work with the Campus Environmental Committee and other appropriate committees to identify sustainable projects and initiatives.

Liaise with counterparts at other educational institutions, businesses, government, and the community to promote collaboration and information exchange. Develop and maintain web-based materials relating to sustainability.

Plan and coordinate sustainability related events such as Earth Day and others. Maintain current knowledge of sustainability best practices.

Research and identify sustainable grant sources.

Work directly with the Environmental Health and Safety staff to develop and implement best management practices relating to environmental programs. Manage, develop and expand programs to promote recycling and waste reduction on campus and to insure compliance with applicable regulations.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree and three years of experience.

Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.
